SOCIAL MEDIA

Having the opportunity to be a part of a social media team has allowed me to develop my understanding of online social interaction and the positive and negative impact it can have.

What makes a successful social media campaign? My answer; emotional connection, team work and a versitile personality. The most valuable aspect of carrying out a social media campaign I have adopted is the ability to adapt professionalism and tone of voice when addressing different audiences online. This is particularly important as often misunderstandings can occur due to the social media platform barrier, for example the use of sarcasm.

There are many types of campaigns out there all competing to create awareness among the general public about the dangers of a high sugar consumption. Many of them are set up to get people involved physically, however, there is an increasing number of campaigns being run online as a wider range of people can be targeted.

As a group, we planned to run our online campaign over a six week period with the purpose of the campaign being to raise awareness and helping people to change their lifestyles and habits. This included low sugar diets and to make them aware of how easy it is to be misled and the alternative options available out there. The campaign was aimed at a specific group of people and using our skills and knowledge appropriate content was produced.

I had several roles in the duration of the campaign including setting up, running the Twitter account, interacting with Twitter users and uploading videos on YouTube.

Another role within the post production and analysis side of the campaign which I was in charge of was creating updates on popular posts, audience interaction and deciding the best time to schedule the next post.

This was achieved using analysis sites such as Google Trends, Facebook Insights and Twitter Analytics. This helped us achieve maximum results, reach out to our audience efficiently and spread the message successfully.

self- hosted blog

Ocassionally, I enjoy writing and publishing posts on the topic of new technology, media and film. Writing these posts has helped me to broaden my views and ideas surrounding issues within the media industry.

The blog has been set up through the website platform, Wordpress. From using this platform I have been able to learn how to code using the Wordpress system and design the majority of the blog site presonally.
